ALAMINOS CITY–Former Philippine President Fidel V. Ramos, now 83 years old, showed he is still in great form as he took a dive into the Hundred Islands National Park here.
After donning his scuba gear, Ramos did some sit-ups and push-ups before going underwater, accompanied by Mayor Hernani Braganza, also a diving enthusiast.
Ramos, who hails from Asingan town in the eastern side of the province, encouraged his fellow elderly to take time out and have a dip in the sea as a form of physical therapy.
“Para sa mga senior citizens kagaya ko, masarap yung lumangoy sa dagat. Nagkakaroon ng additional buoyancy about 30 percent,” Ramos said.
“Magaan ang mga buto- buto mo. Parang therapy sa akin kasi laki ako sa dagat,” he added.
Meanwhile, Braganza cheered the visit of Ramos, which he said serves as a good showcase for diving in the Hundred Islands, a declared Protected Area.
The Hundred Islands National Park, which is under the management of the local government, is home to giant clams and diverse marine resources.
“Makikita ng mga tao na hindi lang snorkeling, swimming o kayaking ang magagawa dito kundi pati scuba diving,” Braganza said. (PIA-Pangasinan)
